Google Will Now Show Blue Tick Marks for BIMI Verified Organisations

Following Twitter, Google has now announced that they will display a blue tick icon next to a sender's name to verify their identity and reduce scams.

In 2021, Google introduced Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) in Gmail, a feature that requires senders to use strong authentication and verify their brand logo in order to display it as an avatar in emails. Building upon BIMI, users will now see a blue tick icon for senders that have adopted this feature. This will help users identify messages from legitimate senders versus impersonators.

The feature has been rolled out and released since 3rd May 2023 and is available to all Google Workspace customers, legacy G-Suite Basic and Business Customers, and users with personal Google accounts.

Why is Google Doing This?

Google has said in a statement "Strong email authentication helps users and email security systems identify and stop spam, and also enables senders to leverage their brand trust. This increases confidence in email sources and gives readers an immersive experience, creating a better email ecosystem for everyone."

How Can I Receive the Verified Blue Tick?

To receive the verified blue tick, you'll need to follow the below steps:

  • Set up your Google account on BIMI, which requires domain information.
  • Upload your brand logo in SVG format and register it as a trademark.
  • Apply for a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) to add a blue tick next to your brand logo on Gmail

It is important to note that companies that have adopted BIMI will receive the blue tick for free.
