The Principal Advisor is a senior subject matter expert role responsible for providing specialist guidance, advisory, and delivery support across data protection and privacy engagements. Working closely with the Head of Data Protection and Privacy and cross-functional teams, this role bridges governance, risk, compliance, and technical domains to ensure clients meet evolving regulatory requirements and achieve robust data security outcomes.
This position demands practical experience with, and deep knowledge of, data protection practices and privacy tooling and frameworks, combined with the ability to translate regulatory and business needs into pragmatic, actionable solutions. The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders, influencing strategy, driving high-quality delivery, and supporting the growth of the Data Protection and Privacy service line.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Client Engagement
- Provide expert advice on data protection and privacy matters to clients across diverse industries.
- Deliver strategy and advisory engagements to clients, including running discovery workshops, business engagements and developing fit-for-purpose strategies and frameworks.
- Act as the lead consultant and SME for data protection and privacy programs including working with the PMO to develop project plans and manage resourcing.
- Work closely with the GRC, Security Engineering, and SOC teams to enable high-quality delivery and continuous improvement of data protection and privacy services.
- Advise on compliance with APP, APRA, GDPR, and other applicable relevent regulations.
Thought Leadership & Framework Development
- Support the Head of Data Protection and Privacy continue to establish Infotrust as a recognised leader in the space.
- Contribute to the continuous innovation and improvement of Data/Information Governance, Data Protection and Privacy approaches, frameworks and strategies that underpin our programs and services to customers.
- Support the Head of Data Protection and Privacy in market-facing and thought leadership activities, including, presenting at conferences, and participating in industry working groups and marketing events.
- Contribute insights on emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory developments.
- Mentor and support junior consultants to uplift capability within the practice.
Growth & Pre-sales
- Assist sales and pre-sales teams by providing specialist expertise and scoping of engagements to support the sales process.
- Work with various vendors and partners to align client requirements with fit-for-purpose tooling solutions that ensure high-quality client outcomes.
Key Competencies & Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in data protection, privacy or related spaces.
- Experience providing advisory or strategic consulting, including developing strategies and frameworks, running discovery workshops and engaging business teams.
- Strong technical understanding of common data protection tools and capabilities such as DLP, DSPM, Data Classification & Labelling, Privacy Management and Insider Threat/Risk Management
- Strong understanding of privacy laws, including the APPs, GDPR, and relevant sectoral regulations.
- Hands-on experience implementing or managing data protection tools and capabilities will be highly regarded.
- Experience working in large enterprises will be highly regarded.
- Relevant industry certifications are advantageous.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex data protection and privacy issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including policy drafting and stakeholder presentations.
